Sign language story: Country mouse and the city mouse
A country mouse invited his friend a city mouse to come visit with him in the country. The city mouse wanting to get away decided to visit his friend in the country. They ate their meals in the field. The tiny morsels of grain in the field that had been left behind by the farmer are all they had to eat and the spoiled fruits that had been left by the pickers and the vegetables that were bruised. The city mouse told the country mouse that he lived like an ant, gathering what he could. He talked the country mouse into going to the city where they give live luxurious lives. After their arrival to the city the city mouse gave the country mouse bread, butter, apples, bananas, nuts, and corn. The country mouse was very happy with all the food he saw. The two were just about to eat when they heard a door squeak, and they ran as fast as they could through a little hole. A cat watched them through the hole, and they were too frightened to eat. Once again the mice were close to the food, yet the cat ran faster to pursuit the two of them. The country mouse was more hungry being in the city than living at home. He told his friend he must go back to his own home where he eats little, but he does eat.
Drama:
We add the names of the charaters of the story (country mouse, city mouse, and cat) to a hat. The children draw out a character then act it out with no sound. The other children then guess what charater each child is acting as.
Song: Italian
Maria Lavava,Giuseppe stendava,Il figlio piangeva, Del freddo che aveeva, Sta zito mio figlio, Che adesso ti piglio, Il latte t'ho dato, Il pan non c'e
Mary busy with the washing, Joseph hung it out to dry, All alone the baby is lying, From the bitter cold he was crying, Hush my son, my little one in a moment I will be done, All my milk I have given you, and the bread is gone too.
Moral: Family is the heart of who we are, so we need to cherish to moments we have together.
