What's a WebRing ?
A webring is a collection of websites, connected to each other using some simple HTML-code and a "ring server" like ours. They do so because the member-sites share something incommon: the theme of the sites, the webmasters know each other, or.. well, anything! There are thousands of them around the world these days.
The most important reason why you - as a webmaster - should join a webring is that it increases traffic to your site. How come? People visit a website, and when they've seen enough of your site but wish to continue surfing sites similar like yours or about the same topic, they simply click on the webring-code they'll find on your site stating "next" or "previous". When they do so, the ring server forwards them to the next site(s) in the ring. This way, you are giving traffic to other sites. But since there are sites in the ring linking to you, you're receiving traffic from others also.
Why "MIMAnet" ?
Some years ago the first webrings started and hosted by "webring.org". Webring was sold to Geocities and later on Geocities was sold to Yahoo. Nothing wrong with that. There was only one "minor" thing many webmasters didn't like.. after the take-overs banner ads appeared at the original Webring site. Banner ads they didn't like. Another thing bothering many people was that Webring.org also hosted pornographic or "adult" and occult rings. Because of this, people (children) surfing the web via a webring might eventually -if they tried hard enough- end up on a "adult" or occult site.
After the recent changes that occurred in August 2000, changes when ring-masters were forced to join Yahoo to continue their webrings we've decided now it was the time for a change... That's why we've formed "MIMAnet WebRing Zone", a "clean" ring-server for families and, most important, safe for kids.
